Today is my Grandad’s 80th birthday. I always remember his age as he’s 50 years my senior and rightly so. He hasn’t been walking the earth with us for three years now, but his spirit is so strong, so full of vitality it is like he has never left.
Leo really was one of the greatest men I have known:
a gentleman, gentle and chivalrous;
wise, seeking and bestowing knowledge;
loyal, to his one true love and his faith;
and a kindred spirit, a kind soul, a loving friend and the ability to tell the longest yarn you’ve ever heard.
Today I celebrate with you Grandad. I celebrate your love of horse racing, home brew, endless pottering in the garden, tinkering under the house, iced vo vos, half a cup of tea, crosswords, football and cricket obssession, your VHS library, that infectious laugh and loving smile.
My heart sings these lyrics of an unknown song.
I’ve travelled long days
I’ve travelled long years
I’ve travelled a lifetime to find my way home
Home is where the heart is
Home is where the heart is
Home is where the hear its
My heart is with you.
Happy Birthday x.
