#2: how things are different

There’s been a huge change in my house. There is an extra body. A hungry, tired, happy, smiley, drooly, rolly change. There are twice the nappies, twice the tantrums and twice the joy (most of the time). That gummy joy that lights up the room when it smiles. Dalby has arrived.

Almost seven months after her arrival into our family I feel the slightest hint of a rhythm emerging. Excuse me for my absence, I’ve been finding my way through baby#2 land. It’s not quite comfortable just yet but it’s taking shape. We are all getting settled in our new roles: as mother and father or two; as big brother; and as little sister. We are discovering our boundaries and testing them, especially the two year old. I didn’t really expect two children to be this hard. There are more teary days than before (for all of us) and I’m unsure if this is ok. Scrap that. It is okay. It is reality. My mother guilt levels haven’t dropped but my patience levels have. It’s an ebb and flow process.

As the eve before the New Year approaches, I’m looking forward to the restorative energy that comes with anticipation, motivation and excitement for the year ahead. I’ll be approaching 2015 with commitment towards health, happiness, love and sustainability. Stay tuned and look out for some blogs on organic backyard gardens, free-range chickens, garden playgrounds, homemade cheese, managing a practical and sexy child friendly wardrobe and practical guides on keeping your own toy library.

How have you coped with having baby#2?
